Eutelsat unveils candidates for fiction/general entertainment in TV Awards

Recognising the capacity of TV to deliver “gripping entertainment and its fundamental resilience in a changing marketplace” Eutelsat has nominated Chérie 25, Trace Sports and Eurochannel as candidates for the Fiction/General Entertainment category at its TV Awards.
Revealing the companies it wishes to showcase, the satellite operator says that for the first time, industry bodies around Europe have begun comparing the time spent watching TV against consuming media online. It adds that the three channels shortlisted by the jury in the Fiction/General Entertainment category in this year's Eutelsat TV Awards reflect an ability to quickly create a loyal and growing audience by seeking out a niche market in entertainment programming and creating or uncovering innovative content
Chérie 25 was launched in December 2012 and is the fourth channel launched by NRJ Group, one of France's leading media companies. Its programme line-up comprises chat show, documentaries and fiction. It is one of the six new HD channels launched in France by satellite and over the DTT network. The channel is targets an essentially female audience and sets great store by its own content production which currently represents about 55% of programmes and should continue to increase.
Said to be the first channel entirely dedicated to European productions, Eurochannel offers programmes ranging from films to music, series to documentaries, aiming to reflect Europe today, and its rich culture and its complexity. In addition to airing award-winning series, movies as well as short-films that are little known beyond their borders, the channel has developed partnerships with festivals across the world, including the San Sebastian International Film Festival, the Black Nights in Talinn and the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. Following its beginnings in Latin America, and launch in North America, Korea and Africa, the channel came to Europe in 2012 and is expanding its footprint, from Portugal and France to Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iceland, Albania and Poland.
Trace Sports is the first global sports entertainment channel 100% dedicated to showcasing sporting talent and sports celebrities. It gives viewers behind-the-scenes access to sports stars when they're not on the track, on the field or in the pool, exposing the passions, convictions, hobbies, diets and motivations that drive them forward. Launched two years ago, the channel has rapidly built up its international distribution and is preparing to transition into High Definition.
The winner of the Fiction/General Entertainment Award will be announced on 15 November at the Eutelsat TV Awards ceremony.
