Desktop and laptop are by far the preferred devices for Spanish viewers watching online video, reveals The Cocktail Analysis.
streaming espaaAccording to the report, over eight in ten streaming video viewers in Spain prefer to watch on a desktop or laptop than any other device. Only a third watch on mobile screens like tablets and smartphones, and around 20% use smart TVs.
These figures are nothing to cheer about for TV boxes like Google’s Chromecast or Apple TV, as just 4% said they watch streaming video via such devices. Less than 3% use game consoles.
“Regardless of the preference for watching digital video on relatively traditional devices, streaming video certainly appeals to younger users in Spain more than their older counterparts,” says The Cocktail Analysis.
According to the report, over 40% of viewers between 18-35 view foreign series via downloads or steaming video, while less than 30% of those aged 36-55 do so. Regardless of age, viewers in Spain tend not to turn to streaming for their news intake: 17% of those aged 18-35 do so, and just 11% of those aged 36-55.
Still, the figures point to an increase in consumption of video through online and streaming platforms, a trend which is already made use of by digital advertisers. In 2015 online ads neared 25% of the total invested by Spain’s advertising industry, according to an IAB report.
