In a Hulu-style move, CBS has created an advertising-free tier for its CBS All Access subscription streaming service.
cbs all accessWhile the standard option costs $6 per month, a fee of $10 per month gives users commercial-free versions of its on-demand library, which holds more than 7,500 episodes. The broadcaster did caveat the announcement, saying that “select on-demand shows will include promotional interruptions”.
Subscribers to the standard plan will still get “reduced commercials” when watching on-demand content, the company said, and CBS Classics will run without commercials system-wide.
Regardless of customers' choice of tier, any live, linear broadcast content will have the same commercials as the over-the-air broadcast.
Hulu recently ended its free TV offering, focusing on its $8 per month ad-light and $12 per month ad-free tiers. Hulu streams the remaining national broadcast feeds, from NBC, ABC and FOX.
