ProSiebenSat.1 plans new German TV channel
German commercial broadcast group ProSiebenSat.1 wants to launch a new advertising-financed free-to-to air TV channel in Germany.
The channel carrying the working title K1 Doku will target older men, reports German industry magazine Kontakter. The schedule will mainly comprise documentaries; the launch date has not been fixed yet.
The project is developed by Katja Hofem who already established sixx, Sat.1 Gold and ProSieben Maxx, according to the report. Thorsten Pütsch, senior vice president marketing, is also said to be involved.
“We plan a new channel for 2015,” a ProSiebenSat.1 spokesperson confirmed. Details on the new venture would be announced in due time.
K1 Doku would fill a gap in ProSiebenSat.1’s free-to-air thematic channel portfolio: Women’s channel sixx targets young viewers while Sat.1 Gold focuses on an older female audience. ProSieben Maxx targets young men, but a proposition for an older male audience has been missing so far.
