BAFTA-winning filmmaker, Sarah Tierney has launched a new funding campaign for online video service We Are Colony.
Founded by Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Sarah Tierney and launched in public beta in February 2015, We Are Colony confidently believes that it could be the UK's answer to Netflix, looking to ‘transform’ the streaming sector by connecting content owners with fans. The platform releases independent feature and short films with a range of behind-the-scenes content to drive earlier and deeper audience engagement. The exclusive fan-favourite additional content includes making-of documentaries, cast/crew interviews, bloopers, deleted scenes, audio commentary, storyboards and original scripts.
The platform works with filmmakers, distributors and sales agents to deliver consumer-focused content bundles to an international audience base. It claims to have a unique focus on exclusive behind-the-scenes material, the sort of extras customers used to get with a special edition DVD but are now lost in the age of online video services such as Amazon and Netflix. It asserts that its global-first approach differentiates it in a territory-specific traditional industry.
The funding campaign is using Seedrs to gain its investment level. Explaining the campaign, Tierney said: “Online streaming is an exciting, rapidly-evolving sector but, as a consumer, the experience has not moved on ... Now we want to focus on more exclusive deals and building relationships with the major studios, to help expand the catalogue. We’re giving people the opportunity to become part of our journey through this equity crowdfunding campaign, and invest alongside venture capitalists and established funds ... We hope to raise at least £500,000 to accelerate us to the next stage of growth.”
