CBeebies arrives in MENA with beIN tie-up
Pay-TV operator beIN Media is bringing preschool children’s channel CBeebies to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for the first time, following a deal with BBC Worldwide.
Aimed at children aged from two to six, CBeebies will air as a linear channel on beIN’s direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV platform from 1 April 2016.
“CBeebies is the No 1 channel for preschoolers in the UK, and that success has spread internationally – from Australia to South Africa. We have a fantastic line-up of brand new programmes for viewers in the Middle East & North Africa region which we know will entertain and educate local preschoolers in equal measure,” said Natasha Hussain, vice president and general manager for Middle East & Mediterranean region, BBC Worldwide.
Qatar’s beIN Media announced its expansion into entertainment last November, after previously concentrating on sports broadcasting.
Yousef Al-Obaidly, deputy CEO, beIN Media Group, added: “beIN is focused on providing a wide range of exclusive and premium content for children. This is in line with our vision of catering to the needs of whole family. Our partnership with BBC enhances our kids entertainment portfolio even further.”
The channel will bring original programming such as animated series Go Jetters, which follows the adventures of four heroes as they travel the world with their teacher and friend, using comedy, teamwork, and action to develop children’s knowledge of the world and those around them.
Additionally, CBeebies includes the colourful animated series Hey Duggee – aimed at encouraging fun and learning in two to five-year-olds; the BAFTA award-winning, 2D animation Sarah and Duck series 2; and the contemporary version of seasoned favourite The Clangers, narrated by Michael Palin.
CBeebies is also available in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Mexico, Latin America, Poland and South Africa.
