BT Sport aims for ‘most social’ Champions League broadcast
BT Sport is aiming to set a landmark for online and social broadcasting in the UK with its coverage of the 2016 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Athético Madrid.
The clash of the Madrid giants is being live-streamed on YouTube so that non-subscribers of the core BT Sport package can watch the pinnacle of European football. This comes weeks after BT drew huge audiences on the online video platform for the Europa League final between Liverpool and Sevilla.
Yet BT Sport has also announced what it claims are world-first innovations of the final weekend across Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vine. Indeed, this is the first time the Champions League final has been streamed live on a social media platform.
Coverage across the whole Champions League weekend will be covered by Snapchat Live Story, with behind the scenes footage from Milan and Madrid. Facebook’s ‘Live’ platform will be used for interactive interviews with BT Sport pundits. Live match action clips will be published in real-time via @btsportfootball on Twitter, with exclusive footage posted into Twitter Moments. Twitter followers will also vote on Goal of the Season and Man of the Match.
