Al Jazeera Sport rebrands as beIN Sports Arabia

Al Jazeera Sport is to be known as beIN Sports across the Middle East as the New Year dawns, as the Qatari broadcaster seeks to cement a global brand ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Subscribers in the Arab world will now have access to 19 high definition (HD) premium sports channels, including 12 in Arabic, rebranded as beIN Sports 1-10HD, along with beIN Sports, and beIN Sports News.
In addition, two channels will be available in French (beIN Sports 13-14 HD FR), and one channel in Spanish (beIN Sports 15 HD ES). English language channels Fox Sports and NBA TV will also be provided for subscribers.
"In a world where sports has the unique power to unite people, beIN Sports seeks to propel fans into a new age of sports programming by providing unmatched global sports coverage to its customers," said Nasser Ghanim Al Khelaifi, chairman, beIN Sports.
"The new network will transform TVs into portals of unlimited immersive sporting action that speak to each fan in their own language, allowing events to live on long after the final whistle blows," he added.
Al Jazeera Media Networks already runs three BeIN Sports channels in France (beIN Sport 1, which launched in June 2012, along with beIN Sport 2 and beIN Sport MAX) and launched an English and Spanish channel in the United States in August 2012.
The Qatari Sports Investments affiliate also holds Canadian broadcast rights to several sports properties, but so far lacks the regulatory authorisation to broadcast there.
In Asia, beIN Sport has also been present in Indonesia since October 2013, and Hong Kong since November 2013 – holding the broadcast rights for the Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, and Major League Soccer in each territory.
